Just The Right Balance | Tracy Campoli
From taking her health to the point of obsession to finding the right balance, Tracy Campoli saved herself from the negative effects of over dieting and exercise and is now out to save others from making similar mistakes. “I used to be a chronic dieter and over exerciser. I used to believe that a workout would only be effective if I spent at least 90 minutes sweating in a gym. I used to obsessively count calories and really had a TERRIBLE relationship with my body and body image and it killed my confidence.
I finally decided there had to be another way. I stopped dieting (and the funny thing is, that is when I LOST weight) and I started moving for pleasure. I would ask myself what I needed, what would serve my body the most,” Tracy explains.
Tracy has always been an active person. By the age of 23. Tracy had found success in the world of dance. Unfortunately, Tracy suffered from an injury causing chronic pain. With doctors doubtfully suggesting a Chiropractor in hope that it would help ease the pain, Tracy opted not to go that route and found an alternative that ultimately worked for her. “I wasn’t satisfied with the options that the doctor left me, so that led me to PIlates. After training in Pilates a few times a week for 6 months, I realized that I had no back pain, and I was hooked,” Tracy exclaims!
Prior to her injury, Tracy wasn’t shy about the gym. In fact she was a little over obsessed with exercise and dieting. However, having to step back from the extraneous time in the gym, Tracy realized that there were healthy options to remaining healthy and fit. Everything is better in moderation, even itness! “At first it was a little scary because I had never treated myself this way. And once I started seeing and feeling the positive changes…I never looked back.
I lost weight permanently, I feel more toned and confident, and I am happy to say that I have a better relationship with my body now in my 40’s than I did in my 20’s,” Tracy says.
Finding the right balance, gaining an even healthier lifestyle and overcoming a significant injury were all significant personal achievements, however there is an external factor that brings Tracy the most joy. “Being able to share my mission and message with women all over the world truly is the most rewarding. I love watching women stop the destructive pattern of dieting and forcing themselves to do workouts they hate and creating FREEDOM in their bodies. When women take a Holistic approach to their fitness and nutrition it unlocks the keys to freedom and they feel more confident, beautiful and happier while creating a body they love. Nothing makes me happier,” Tracy excitedly states!
Most people have heard of pilates but a lot of people don’t really know what it is and how it works. Can you explain what Pilates is and how it is uniquely beneficial?
Pilates was created by Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s! So it is no new fad. It works by strengthening your core, which truly is the center of all movement. When you have a strong core, all movements will be better. It creates a long lean body (no bulky muscles!), a flatter tummy, a lifted butt and better posture. Everyone can benefit from Pilates or Pilates based exercise. I also love that it can be done by all ages. When I taught Pilates I had clients from teenagers to women in their mid 80’s.
Why do you think a person’s mindset is so integral to their success?
Mindset is honestly everything. Women often will come to me saying “I’ve tried everything…nothing will work for me. I can’t lose this weight”. I understand this feeling, because that was what I used to believe too.
However, our bodies respond to what we say, how we think and what we believe is possible. This is proven by science!
Honestly most of the work that I do with my clients is cleaning up their mindset so that they create a body that is working with them in harmony.
When your mindset shifts to a success mindset, the changes often can feel “magical” or “miraculous”.
I love seeing a woman’s mindset shift, because when it does, her whole life changes! Powerful!
What three pieces of fitness equipment should everyone have?
Light Handweights 1-5lbs
Fitness Bands to add extra resistance to your workouts
A mini-rebounder is my favorite! It burns as many calories as running, and is so much fun! I love watching “guilty pleasure” reality tv while bouncing. My “Transformer Tribe” in Total Body Transformation LOVE my full length rebounder workouts.
In your opinion, what are the most overrated and underrated exercises?
Most people work their abs incorrectly. They tuck their butt under and end up working their hip flexors rather than their abs. Doing Pilates crunches or even better crunches with straight legs are much more effective. There are so many ways to work your abs, sit ups generally don’t work.
I also am NOT a fan of women overtraining at the masculine type of workouts that create big bulky arms and legs. It’s a personal choice.
And over training at boutique spinning studios creates bulky thighs for women like me that are short (I’m only 5’2”)
Rebounding! I truly am obsessed!
Weightless arm workouts, the BEST way for women to get beautiful “dancer like” arms is training without weights. Think about it, ballet dancers spend hours in a static contraction at the barre, and have amazing arms. Weightless arm workouts are amazing for creating long, lean arms.
