“I love inspiring people by sharing my story. I grew up as a ballerina, transitioned into yoga and then I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and was completely immobile for over a year. I weighed under 100 lbs and had no muscle tone. I basically had to start from scratch. And when I share my story it inspires others that they can do the same no matter what their situation is.” –Jesse Golden

Jesse Golden’s inspiring story has changed the lives of many of her followers. She started off as a dancer. She practiced ballet early on in life. “My mom had a dance studio growing up so being physically active has always been a part of my life,” Jesse says. Her dancer lifestyle helped her to transition into a fit lifestyle. She began to practice yoga and worked on her fitness. Unfortunately, Jesse fell ill with rheumatoid arthritis. Losing all of her muscle, Jesse became completely immobile for over a year. However, Jesse did not let this stop her. She pushed on to regain her mobility and get back into her fit lifestyle.

Inspiration

Jesse has learned a lot of life lessons through her personal experience. She uses her website GoldenSecrets as a platform to share her story and help others. She offers many tips not only to achieve fitness, but also to overcome any hurdles that may block you along the way. She finds joy in inspiring others. “The most rewarding part is when I get messages or comments from people that something I did changed their life or helped them in a positive way,” Jesse elaborates.

Productivity

Of course with any form of fitness, you must have a plan and stick to it. In Jesse’s case this was even truer. Coming back from such a rough time can take a toll on you physically as well as mentally. For Jesse the first step to taking back control of her life was getting back in the right mindset. “Being optimistic no matter what challenges bring you whether it’s in your life or in your physical goals. We will be challenged every step of the way so staying steadfast and committed is vital for success,” Jesse says.

While trying to change her mindset, Jesse had to come up with a plan to execute. She came up with three key components to achieving her goals. “Do tasks as they come, trust your instinct and delegate. The last one is challenging for me but I’m working on it,” Jesse explains.

Future

With overcoming such a tragic past, Jesse seems to have a promising future. She of course plans to continue her journey to staying fit. She also wants to bring more people along with her. Her main goal is to gain more outreach to those who really need uplifting. “I see my brand developing in its entirety and being readily available and accessible to those that could benefit from it most,” Jesse says hopefully.

What three pieces of fitness equipment should everyone have?

Yoga mat, exercise strap/band and a good pair of sneakers.

In your opinion, what are the most overrated and underrated exercises?

The most underrated is stretching for sure. I’m not sure if there’s an overrated exercise. The only thing that comes to mind is all the booty squatting we’ve been doing lately but I’m a big fan so I can’t say anything negative about that

You are so flexible.  Is that something that you intentionally worked on?  Why is this important to you?

Like I just said stretching is the most underrated form of exercise there is. Living with rheumatoid arthritis I have to stretch every day to stay mobile. I fight for it every single day. I figure if I stay on top of it I will be OK. But that stands true for everyone as we age we tend to get rigid not only in our thoughts but in her body. Staying subtle in the body helps us age with grace.

How does a person go about gaining flexibility without injuring themselves?

Slow and steady. With stretching the key is just doing it. You don’t have to do anything crazy. Slow and steady. With stretching the key is just doing it. You don’t have to do anything crazy. It’s about finding that spot where you feel a sensation but not pain and then staying there for at least 30 seconds.

What are the most beneficial aspects of a yoga practice to you?

Everything that is practiced on the mat gets translated off the mat and that is the magic of yoga.
