Serena wasn’t naturally a fit person and discuss on Fit Tips. She had to work hard to get herself onto a healthy fit path. She endured obstacles that she overcame to become as successful as she is. One of the biggest obstacles she faced was with body image. “ One of my biggest challenges was definitely comparing myself to others. Unfortunately, we live in a world where anyone’s idea of perfection is easily found via a Google search. And with that comes self-deprecating thoughts and attitudes.
This took me SO LONG to overcome, but the simplest way I can put how I overcame it was to not think too much. And I noticed that my downward spirals would stem from obsessing over every ounce of food that I put into my mouth. every missed workout, and everyone else that I thought was “perfect”. Through a lot of practice, I have taught myself to relax and let my body do what it naturally knows how to do. It tells me when I’m hungry and when I’m tired–and it rewards me with results. It has all been an evolving process, and I think that trusting my body and relaxing my mind of the forceful thoughts has allowed me to grow on the outside, but more importantly grow on the inside,” Serena says.

- What advice would you give to a young person today who wanted to ditch a sedentary lifestyle and become more fit and healthy?
BABY STEPS. Fitness and active living are not “all-or-nothing”. For so long I lived with that mentality and it NEVER worked. If baby steps means going on a 15 minute walk every day for a month before pushing yourself to make it a 25 minute daily walk, who cares?! There is no timeline, there is not one right way to do it–there are millions of right ways. Never feel like you should do something or should be somewhere on your journey. You are right where you need to be, and your body will tell you when it’s ready for more.
